Tea party to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday

June 23, 2016 by admin Leave a Comment

red white and blue buntingAll Lydiard Millicent residents are invited to a special tea party this weekend.

The tea party takes place between 2pm and 4pm in the Parish Hall on Sunday 26 June 2016. There is no charge for this event, which marks the Queen’s 90th Birthday.

placard in lydiard millicentAlthough the Queen celebrated her actual birthday on 21st April, her official birthday is the second Saturday in June. (In the Northern hemisphere, the monarch’s official birthday is set by Royal Proclamation and Statute to coincide with the best chance of fine weather!)

A host of events have been organised up and down the country, including the Queen’s Patrons’ Lunch, an open-air street party in the Mall. Closer to home, Lydiard Millicent looks set to enjoy its own celebrationary cream tea, courtesy of the Parish Hall Trustees.

The Parish Hall instills a sense of community through its annual mince pies and coffee morning, just before Christmas, and its hot cross bun and coffee morning at Easter. This Sunday’s event is an added bonus.

The main aim is definitely social. Nigel Margetts, Chair of the Parish Hall Trustees, described the event as “another opportunity for folk to get together and find out who actually lives in the village.” In addition, there will some light musical entertainment and a raffle, with the proceeds going towards the Parish Hall funds (necessary to keep the Hall going and to provide future events).

Why not come along, meet your neighbours and raise a cup to her Maj?
